Happy Juneteenth

Happy Juneteenth to you too! Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on June 19th that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

Hurricane Season Starts June 1st - Hurricane Preparedness

Here are some hurricane preparedness tips:

  • Stay informed: Monitor weather updates and listen to local authorities for instructions and evacuation orders.

  • Create an emergency kit: Assemble a supply kit that includes essential items such as non-perishable food, water, flashlight, batteries, first aid supplies, medications, cash, important documents, and a portable phone charger.

  • Secure your home: Trim trees and secure loose outdoor items that could become projectiles in high winds. Consider installing storm shutters or boarding up windows. Reinforce garage doors and secure roof shingles if needed.

  • Evacuation plan: Know your evacuation zone and plan your evacuation route in advance. Identify shelters or safe locations if you need to evacuate.

  • Communication plan: Establish a communication plan with your family or friends, including a designated meeting place in case you get separated.

  • Protect important documents: Keep important documents like identification, insurance policies, and medical records in a waterproof and portable container.

  • Have a backup power source: Consider purchasing a generator or having alternative power sources to keep essential devices and equipment running in case of a power outage.

  • Prepare for flooding: If you live in an area prone to flooding, elevate valuable items and furniture, and consider installing check valves to prevent sewage backflow.

  • Secure your pets: Make sure to include your pets in your emergency plans. Have enough food, water, medications, and a carrier or leash ready for them.

  • Stay safe during the storm: Stay indoors and away from windows. If necessary, take shelter in an interior room without windows. Avoid using candles and rely on flashlights instead.

Remember, it's important to follow the advice and instructions provided by local authorities during hurricane events.
